Constanta Maritime University reasserts its national and international prestige by attracting candidates for Bachelor’s for Master’s and Doctoral studies from abroad. The university accreditation and auditing have been carried out through national and international certification bodies. It was also taken into consideration the feedback from shipping companies for new lines of work on board ships and the huge demand for graduates on the international labour market.
Constanta Maritime University intends to develop all directions which allow a global and full recognition of its permanent efforts to train the future merchant marine officers. Consequently, traditional majors in marine education have been developed – Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Navigation- as well as other degrees, which enabled the integration of marine education and related activities in ports and inland waters. These new tracks are Environmental Engineering, Telecommunications Technologies and Systems, and Economic Engineering in Transports.
Cyber security in maritime industry
The significant increase in the number of maritime cybersecurity incidents required the introduction in 2019 of a Master’s degree in cybersecurity and associated risk management that enrolled us in a new educational area in the landscape of MET institutions, the approach being innovative and collaborative at the level of member universities in the International Association of Maritime Universities. The interest aroused by our approach was important, the numerous master students enrolled in the first promotion being extremely interested in maritime cyber security. Experts, researchers and master’s students benefit from the first Virtual Cyber Range (VRCyberEDU – vredu.cysec.center) platform developed within the Center of Excellence in Maritime Cyber Security.
The university vocation of advanced collaboration at European level has been extended by developing working capacities on the direction of collaborative cyber threat intelligence and information sharing platforms and Critical Infrastructure Protection through our participation in a series of educational activities coordinated by ESDC at the beginning of 2020. As a direct result of this collaboration, a number of new platforms have been developed such as MISP or advanced Cyber OSINT search engine with over 11 Â million indexed links. A great success is the extension of the public information resource of the MCYSEKA-Maritime Cyber Security Knowledge Archive portal to over 1.300,000 articles on the topics of cybersecurity, security and geostrategy. Currently, the portal is one of the largest automatically aggregated information resources available online (maritimecybersecurity.center).
